My first business?
Buying and selling football cards on eBay—when I was around 10 years old.
This was back in 1998 when eBay was just starting out. It was an awesome intro to entrepreneurship.
I learned how to write compelling listings, respond to customer questions, ship products, and—most importantly—understand money.
I also remember figuring out how to use our digital camera (before smartphones were a thing) to take photos and upload them to the computer. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was learning a ton about technology too.
One of the biggest lessons I learned?
I could buy Detroit Tigers, Pistons, and Lions cards online way cheaper than I could find them locally—so I started flipping them to friends and at flea markets. That’s when I really started to understand the power of arbitrage.
Now it’s come full circle.
This summer, my boys (6, 8, and 11) are officially launching their own eBay store. They’ll be listing, pricing, and shipping—with a little guidance from Dad.
It’s going to be a summer full of learning, laughs, and some great quality time together.
So if you’re in the market for some football cards, shoot me a message—I’d love to show you what they have available. You just might make their day with their first sale.
